COPYRIGHTS << Back | Our Fees | Learn More >>
There is no such thing as an "international copyright" that will automatically protect an author's writings throughout the entire world. Protection against unauthorized use in a particular country depends, basically, on the national laws of that country. However, most countries offer protection to foreign works under certain conditions, and these conditions have been greatly simplified by international copyright treaties and conventions. The two primary treaties regarding copyright are the Berne Union for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Property and the Universal Copyright Convention. Furthermore, the United States has established copyright treaties with most countries. As a result of these treaties, each country respects the copyrights of the others. Currently, a U.S. copyright is honored in 190 countries around the world.
