Provisional patents provide numerous advantages, including:

Inexpensive.  Filing a provisional patent application is much faster and less expensive than filing a regular utility application.  It is a fast and cost effective way in which to protect your invention.

Establish priority with a date of invention.  A provisional patent application allows you to establish a date of invention for your invention.  If someone else later claims that they are the inventor, this date of invention serves as presumptive proof that you are the true inventor of this invention.

Patent Pending.  Once you have filed a provisional patent application, you may use the phrase "patent pending" with your invention.  This can deter others from copying your invention..

Twelve (12) months to assess value of invention.  A provisional patent application provides you with 12 months in which to assess the market potential of your invention.  During this time you can discuss the invention with others, perform market studies, seek funding, and even begin selling your invention.  At the end of the 12 months, you can decide whether to continue protecting your invention by filing a regular utility patent (we can do this for you).

Confidentiality.  A provisional patent application is maintained in the strictest confidence and never published by the U.S. Patent Office.  Accordingly, you are able to protect your invention with complete secrecy.
